STATE'S ATTORNEY

The primary role of the state’s attorney office is to serve as the chief law enforcement officer and legal advisor for the Wayne County Board and office holders. The Wayne County State’s Attorney’s office is responsible for the prosecution of crimes committed in Wayne County.

**The Wayne County State’s Attorney cannot offer legal advice on civil matters, including but not limited to divorce, custody issues, social security disability, small claims, property disputes and landlord/tenant issues. A civil attorney must be contacted for legal advice in those matters.

State’s Attorney Kyle Ellis and his staff welcome the opportunity to assist the citizens of Wayne County. If you have been the victim of a crime, you must first and foremost contact the police, whether it is the Wayne County Sheriff Department (618-842-6631) or the Fairfield Police Department (618-842-2151) depending on where the crime took place.
